The Basilica di San Miniato
lies on a hill to the south of the Arno, and is considered to be one of the finest Romanesque structures in all of Tuscany as well as one of the most beautiful churches of Florence. Named after San Miniato, the first martyr of Florence, his bones are said to be contained in the high altar in the crypt, the oldest part of the Basilica.
One of the most beautiful aspects of the Basilica is the raised choir which has not been changed much from its original construction. Another one of the unique sights in the Basilica is the patterned pavement.
