Also known as Santa Maria del Fiore, the cathedral lies on one of the side of Piazza del Duomo. The campanile(bell tower) is 85m tall and, after climbing 414 steps, the view is fantastic. The famous red Duomo, engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi, has become the trademark of Florence. It remains the largest brick dome ever constructed. The cathedral houses some great masterpieces of art. It also features some breathtaking mosaics, glass windows, paintings, monuments, and bronzework that you will not want to miss.
